The Millennial/Gen Z office

The struggle to retain top talent is forcing companies to step back and look at things from a new perspective. Many companies are taking inventory of the why behind what they are doing in the office. Rather than taking the stance of “This is how we have always done it here,” they are starting to imagine new ways of looking at things from the vantage point of a Millennial or Gen Zer rather than the status quo that has always existed. These generations have been immersed in an aesthetically pleasing world as they scroll through their social media feeds. As a result, they have come to highly value living and working in spaces that carry a good vibe.

The tip for today: If you have bookshelves, don’t put them in alphabetical order by the author’s last name so that you can systematically find them in a short amount of time (the only way that makes sense to Gen Xers and Boomers). In today’s aesthetically-oriented Instagram world, books must be ordered by color scheme.  You can find your favorite book according to the color of the cover and where it’s shade fits in among the other hues of blue. While older generations were taught to never judge a book by its cover, in today’s workforce the cover might be the only thing people ever see.
