Ever wonder why voicemails drive Millennials crazy?
/Most Millennials do not like voicemails. If you leave one & expect a response, you may find yourself waiting for quite a long time….like, forever.
Looking at this from a generational perspective might offer insight into why they feel this way.
In 1971, the first commercial answering machine was introduced. It weighed 10 lbs & held 20 messages on a tape with 2 reels. It took 13 yrs for these to become affordable. This meant as teenage GenX were on the phone they could leave long messages & expect a call back asap.
Boomers, just like with email, left thorough messages that could be understood & contained imp details. This included date, time, etc. This Info was necessary.
A few years later, caller id & call waiting became mainstream.
Millennials have always had both. They know exactly who is calling & if they missed the call they know exactly when it came through.
One Millennial described receiving a vm from their parent like this: ”First, my dad says, ‘Joe, this is dad.’ (he has now wasted 15 seconds). Then he says, ‘It’s Wed at 9 am.’ (You now wasted 15 more seconds of my life). The rest just feels frustrating!”
Millennials, try to bear with the rest of us who learned a dif way & are adjusting to a new set of rules.
