Fearless Workplace?
/When deciding where to work, Gen Z isn’t necessarily looking for the largest paycheck. They want to have strong relationships and work in a company culture where they feel safe to be themselves. One thing that is true for every generation is that culture matters. Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z all desire a workplace that is Fearless (I am able to speak up, take risks), Friendly (I am valued, accepted), and Focused (what I do has purpose). These components ring true for all of us but they have a slightly different spin for each generation. For example, when it comes to being fearless at work, Boomers are asking “Am I still relevant?” while Gen Xers want to know if they are being empowered to get the job done. As Boomers move toward retirement and change is rapid, they want to know that the experience they bring matters. They often want to give back & it is important for younger generations to listen to their wisdom. Experience does matter but it often takes a backseat in today’s world because information is right at our fingertips. Knowledge is important but if we take time to listen to the stories of our Boomer employees and apply them to different scenarios, we may just find ourselves better equipped to handle the situation in front of us.
